The power of the pause
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the chaos of your own thoughts?
“Sometimes it feels good to just sit in silence with the windows open and listen to the birds chirping their songs in trees.
Sometimes it’s lovely to just let the breeze hit you, and kiss your skin
Sometimes the silence cools the hotness of the thoughts that can intrude
To just sit leisurely, taking in the sun, the sounds, the buzz of everyday life around you
It feels like a welcoming of life
An ease and like a smooth silk blanket soothing your soul
Do we do this enough?
Do we allow things to just be?
Do we slow down and notice?
Do we let the air in, do we let the wind flow and breathe new life into our space enough?
It’s healing, centering, lovely and warm.”
I try to meditate every day, which isn’t always easy.
Sometimes people think that meditation should feel easy, like second nature. It’s really more of a skill that you learn over time.
It involves shedding the many layers of thoughts and emotions that tend to cloud our lives and perception of the world around us.
It takes some discipline to slow down, to unwind, and unravel all the ways we try to force things.
We think we’re in control of so much, but really we’re not.
Most of us can’t even control our own thoughts.
We allow them to intrude, to dictate, to color our life at their whim
And we wonder why we can’t just let go of the little things.
Our brains, if we let them, are hungry monsters just trying to eat everything in its wake. What a silly and funny picture to imagine.
But really that’s often how it works.
It feeds and feeds and takes in, but it’s our job to allow things to breathe, to integrate, to build understanding, context, discernment.
Otherwise, all we’re doing is hoarding and cluttering up our minds and taking in all the garbage that just acts as a muddy filter to the world around us.
Let your brain breathe from time to time, are you being careful with what you consume?
Are you being intentional with the information you’re allowing to enter into your stream of consciousness?
Sometimes it acts as a palate cleanser to just close your eyes and breathe.
Then it’s from that place that you can create more intentionality, more beauty, more connection into your lived experience.
You may think you need to move forward, but really, maybe you just need to pause.
There is so much power in the pause.
What would your pause look like today?
